Both the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye and the 90 proof 6 yr Rye are soft, drier style ryes, with succulent acidic flavors balanced with plenty of vanilla. Think olives rolled in golden-light brown sugar. I also get almond-cake, allspice and a little bit of hay. The Single Barrel Reserve Rye at 104 proof is a little denser and a little sweeter with more prominence of tobacco and sweet gingerbread. No cinnamon in either of them. Mashbill: 51% Rye, 37% corn, 12% malted barley |
