Richly smoky and complex on the nose with barbecue character, ripe stone fruit, vanilla and a gentle honeyed sweetness from the bourbon cask. On the palate the peat is powerful but balanced, with smoked meats, soft caramel and a lick of citrus. Long, warming and satisfyingly savoury on the finish. A seriously rewarding dram. Ruadh Maor is the name given to the heavily peated single malt produced at Glenturret distillery in Perthshire, where just a tiny volume of peated spirit at around 80ppm is made each year. With peated production now ceased at the distillery, this 14 year old single cask bottling is a genuinely rare thing. Chorlton Whisky is a highly regarded independent bottler based in Manchester, known for carefully curated single cask releases bottled at cask strength without chill-filtration or added colouring.
