A fruity distillate with honey, malt and spicy notes. Matured in a refill barrel then finished for over 2 years in a first fill ex-tawny port cask for notes of intense walnut and dried cherry. One of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, Royal Brackla is located in a historically significant part of the country close to the Culloden Battle Field and the infamous Cawdor Castle. The spirit is described as ’needle-sharp' and floral lending itself well to interesting and diverse maturation. In this case, over 2 years in a fresh ex-tawny port cask has added lashings of chocolate nuts and dried fruits. Lush! Lush ,sweet, rich and vibrant on the initial nose with notes of toffee fudge, rum ’n’ raisin fudge but this gives way to a more sophisticated style of red-wine reduction, caramelised nuts and a dusty bookshelf quality with time. The palate isn’t disappointed with a delivery of a little bit of milk chocolate, glazed cherries and a gingery oak character. The finish is long and doesn’t want to let go. Oak tannins, white pepper and the cacao remains in the form of chocolate praline. |
