Tasting comment by Tsuyoshi Kitakaji [Fragrance] Creosote, first-aid kit, tar, embers, turf, leather furniture, ink, and a deep, complex peat are followed by a faint sweet scent of demerara sugar and prune. [Flavor] Oloroso sherry, roasted almonds, roasted cashews, toast, Lapsang Souchong black tea, brine-cured black olives, anchovies, and mashed potatoes with brown sauce. Very spicy. [Finish] Whole wheat biscuits, tobacco smoke, dried Darjeeling tea leaves, soot, charcoal bread, smoked salmon and stout beer, black pepper, a dry and earthy flavor that lingers for a very long time. [Comment] A powerful peat-derived flavor that is present throughout, woody spices and tannins, and beyond those, a subtle hint of dark fruit and rich sweetness that can be felt is intriguing. A full-bodied and aggressive wine. |
